Oh my gosh! Hedgies! We've been loving caregivers for hedgehogs since the mid-nineties. While hedgehogs are not native to New England (or anywhere in the United States), properly-socialized hedgehogs make for wonderful pocket-pet companions.
Snow the albino hedgehog roamed, Through fields and woods, all alone. Her heart was pure, her love was true, But finding a mate, that was a struggle too.
Hedgehogs aren't difficult to take care of. They're just…different. Their prickly quills make seem daunting but, the more you handle and care for them, the friendlier they get!
The unfortunate truth is that all animals — no matter how cute or friendly — can bite. But hedgehogs are not naturally aggressive, and usually don't bite unless provoked. Even then, they're more likely to just roll up into a ball, and huff and puff in an attempt to sound tough.
If you're reading this from New England, then you're all set, because hedgehogs are legal everywhere in New England. Unfortunately, other regions aren't so lucky, and some states have it out for these lovable little prickleballs!
Many thanks to the following folks who have allowed us to use their cute photos and beautiful graphics!
